Revolution Spotters

Revolution Spotters

The Hewlett-Packard board has created a subcommittee to make sure the company doesn’t miss any more big technological revolutions like, oh, the Internet. Its members include nuclear physicist George Keyworth, big-time Kleiner Perkins venture capitalist Tom Perkins, Verizon vice-chairman Larry Babbio and erstwhile HP printer czar Dick Hackborn. It’s supposed to watch how HP spends its $4 billion R&D budget and evaluate its technical strategies like its involvement in Linux and with Intel’s 64-bit Itanium chip. Meanwhile, HP CTO Shane Robison has also got himself a strategic advisory board consisting of the so-called father of the Internet Vinton Cerf, UC-Berkeley computer science professor Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli, Yahoo co-founder David Filo, ex-HP Labs director Joel Birnbaum, Indigo founder Bennie Landa, former SGI CTO-turned-VC Forest Baskett and ex-Xerox PARC wunderkind, now HP Labs senior fellow Alan Kay.
