Samsung Looking To Settle SEP Charges: Reuters

The Korean giant could be fined as much as $17.3 billion if it is found guilty by the EC that it breached antitriust rules

Samsung is trying to settle the European Commission’s charges that it breached antitrust rules in hounding Apple with standards-based patents (SEPs) and SEP-derived injunctions, Reuters said Tuesday.

A source told the wire service that Samsung has been in settlement talks for “several months” and that it was too soon to tell if a settlement will result.

Samsung could be fined as much as $17.3 billion if it’s found guilty.

The EC sent Samsung a statement of objections (SO) in December.

It’s supposed to license SEPs on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms, something Apple charges it has never offered.
