Riverbed CEO Joins Nimble Board

Kennelly was an early executive or founder in three successful start-ups and was involved in two equally successful IPOs

Riverbed CEO and co-founder Jerry Kennelly has joined the board of the up-and-coming Nimble Storage, which has designed a hybrid storage architecture that integrates Flash and high-capacity drives and promises as much as 10x faster application performance at a reduced TCO.

Nimble CEO Suresh Vasudevan said that "as we continue to gain market share from established players in the market, we need to bring in additional strategic advisors to capitalize on our opportunities in the industry. Kennelly has an amazing success rate leading technology companies through record growth and in establishing winning cultures. His experience will provide valuable insight as we take Nimble to the next level."

Kennelly was an early executive or founder in three successful start-ups and was involved in two equally successful IPOs. That experience is indicative of Nimble's plans.

It's also got Cisco CFO Frank Calderoni and former EqualLogic and VMware exec Kirk Bowman on its board as well as Accel's Ping Li and Sequoia's Jim Goetz whose companies wrote Nimble a check for $40.7 million in mezzanine funding a few months ago.

Altogether Nimble has raised $98 million. All Things Digital says it heard the start-up is valued at $600 million-$750 million.

Nimble, which has 1,100 customers, hit a $100 million run-rate in bookings in the fiscal year ended January 31.

Kennelly has been at Inktomi, Sybase, Oracle and Hewlett-Packard.

"I was attracted to Nimble by the innovative technology, the quality of the management team and the early track record of strong execution," he said. "There is a new paradigm for storage technologies in which Nimble is an early leader with increasing market share that puts it in an important lead position."
